A sick baby breaks her mama's heart!

Oh my, I had a scare last week! Rosie called me at work. She never does that.

In fact, I had just texted her to see how Samantha was doing. She had had a little fever in the morning so thinking it was a new molar coming in, I gave her some Advil and sent her to daycare. Rosie had texted back saying she was doing fine, playing outside, a little tired.

Not more than 10 seconds later my phone rings. "Samantha isn't feeling well. She is shivering and her lips are turning blue." Oh my god! I immediately called my mom to run over and check on her. I told my coworker, Whitney I had an emergency and to call the office to cover my classes and ran out the door. I think I may have ran a couple red lights and sped on the freeway a bit to get to my baby as fast as I could! Dang it! Why do I work so far away?

My mom called a few minutes later to tell me she was OK, a bit feverish. I finally arrived at daycare to see my mom snuggling my baby on the couch. She was fine, sick, but not life threatening as I had feared. It's a strange feeling seeing your baby sick. You want so bad to make it better. You would do anything to take their pain or discomfort away. You worry. You pray. You stay close because you are needed.

I made an appointment with the pediatrician for the next day and called in a substitute for work.

After a good nights sleep and an unnecessary doctors appointment, Samantha was acting incredibly normal. How is it that children can act as if on their death beds one moment and jumping off the walls the next? Crazy kid!

Through this experience I learned a few things:
1. I'm thankful for my mom who drops everything to run over and check on her granddaughter.
2. I'm thankful for my babysitter who calls me when something is wrong.
3. I'm thankful for a job that I can leave when my baby needs me.
4. I'm thankful for my healthy child!

  1. The things we do for love, and wouldn't have it any other way.
