Daddy's got muddy eyebwows!

Samantha's new favorite phrase, "Daddy, you wunnin' in da mud today?"
I took Samantha to see Joe run in the Tough Mudder. That's right, it's called the Tough Mudder, google it, watch the video. This is one of the toughest, face your fears, 11+ mile mud run. My 42 year old husband works out 5 days a week. He works hard and is in great shape. I'm really proud of him and how hard he works to stay in shape. It makes me feel like he is taking care of his family by taking care of himself. One thing that Joe has found keeps him focused on his workouts is to participate in mud runs and other fun athletic events.

(this isn't Joe, but it's a video of the event so you can see what I'm talking about)

I had to work the day of the Tough Mudder but raced Samantha and I up to Temecula as soon as I got off. When we arrived, we waited in line to take the shuttle to the race. As we waited we could watch some contestants running through the mud and Samantha got really excited looking for her daddy and watching all the runners. How new for a toddler to see adults running around and getting dirty! To Samantha's pleasure, we rode a school bus from the parking lot to the event. She loves school buses!

What an event! You can feel the excitement as soon as you step off the bus. I wanted to make it in time to see Joe cross the finish line. Unfortunately, we were probably two minutes late. As we walked up to the finish, Joe waved to us and walked over for a special hug and kiss. I can't even explain how proud I was of him! He did it!!! Oh, did I mention only 79% of participants actually finish? My hubby did! Samantha was enthralled with how dirty Daddy was!
"Daddy got muddy?"
"Daddy run in da mud?"
"Daddy got muddy eyebwows!"
We all enjoyed the beautiful scenery (Vail Lake) and weather while the runners celebrated and relaxed before the long drive home. Samantha loved running around in the grass and just the overall excitement and celebration of the park as runners crossed the finish line. Joe's good friends Jeff Rose, Sky, PJ, Jeff Patteson, Darrin, and a couple of others ran the race as well. It was a really tough race and all the guys were exhausted and commented that it was the hardest thing they have ever done.

Happy family

Since the race Samantha has been talking a lot about Daddy running in the mud. It obviously made quite an impression on her! So when Joe decided to do another mud run a couple of weeks later I wanted to take Sam to watch him. This one was a 5K and at the Skyline church property in east county. I had heard it is one of the "muddiest" mud runs. What was really cool about this race is how close the spectators could get to the runners. We actually got splashed with mud a couple of times! Daddy even stopped to give Sammie a kiss as he ran by. Once again, Samantha had a blast watching her Dad run in the mud. Joe and I are happy to be able to share these experiences with her. It makes us happy to be able to lead by example when teaching our daughter to be active and healthy.
