This year, at age two, we have continued to develop our love for reading. She now has a little longer attention span and we have been able to graduate to books with real pages - not just board books. Don't get me wrong, board books are still very much used but we can also read books without the fear of tearing every page out now.
I'm not going to list every book on the book shelf. Samantha loves anything new and different, Sandra Boynton is still a staple, and any lift the flap book is fun. I am going to list some of the favorites. The ones I have read over and over and over. The ones that we have had so much fun with. The ones that I hope one day, Samantha reads to her little one.
So, I have to start with Sandra Boynton. We love her and have a ton of her books. Blue Hat, Green Hat is Sam's favorite! She has the book memorized and giggles as we both exclaim, "Silly Turkey!" at every page. So much fun!
What is so neat about a lot of Boynton's books is that they are repetitive, which is great for little ones. It teaches them how to predict. Another book that Sam loves to recite, "but not the hippopotamus!"

The Pookie books are so much fun. Sam enjoys the sing-songy rhymes. She will repeat them throughout the day.
Samantha and I love this book. It is so cute as it goes through all the animals at the zoo and why they are inappropriate to have as pets. (the giraffe is too tall, the lion is too fierce, etc.) This was a favorite toward the beginning of 2 years old.
You know I had to include a Thomas book! This one was fun because it's a sing-a-long! Yep, the songs do get stuck in your head!
This book is so cute and it's a rhyme so I had it memorized pretty quickly. I would recite it to Sam in the car when we didn't have any books with us. The other great thing is that it has two plastic frogs on it that you can push to make croak!
Another cute book. We have learned phrases like, "I don't want to miss the beautiful day!" and "I need to eat my salad...and carrot soup too...just like the bunnies." It was the first time Samantha started to relate stories to her real life experiences. Oh, and she loved the handle on the book.
I absolutely adore this book. A wonderful story about how sharing is fun. Another story we read over and over. A must have!!!

I was in the bookstore when a preschool teacher recommended these stories to me. These are amazing and so much fun. Sam quotes phrases from these stories too. She learned what "scotch tape" and "sock puppets" are. Again, anther story that helps with prediction because the end spirals back to the beginning. Another absolute favorite!!!
I searched for this story after seeing that Samantha had read it in preschool. It is a great story filled with the suspense of a big hungry bear!
She talks all the time about "strawberaybies" and Miss Teri showed us the funniest picture of Samantha in this unit. The kids were supposed to wear a disguise like the mouse and strawberry. All the other children had pictures of themselves wearing the glasses and moustache. Samantha apparently refused to wear it (see them around her ankle). The facial expression is priceless too. I laugh everytime I see this picture!
And last, but definitely not least, her Bible. She loves to read stories about Jesus, David, Noah, and Adam. In fact we went through a phase when we had to read about Adam every night! I am always wondering what holds her attention or if what I am reading will upset her (Lazarus' death or Jesus' crucifiction) but I know that God has my baby's best interest at heart. His Word will not be read in vain and that he is speaking to her as I read His stories. I trust in that!
I am so glad my little girl loves to read as much as I do. I look forward to sharing with her all the books from my childhood and hope to see her do the same when she is a mommy. I didn't want to forget her favorites from when she was 2. I'll try to remember to update every year. I can't wait to see what she loves to read when she is 3!
