Movie Night

It has finally happened. At almost 3 years old, Samantha can and wants to sit through a full length movie. She has always been a little on the sensitive side to things she sees on TV. When a character is upset or characters are arguing or fighting, Samantha takes it to heart and gets upset. She also gets scared about seemingly innocent things. Because of this, we have been really careful about what she watches on TV. We have not rushed her into the Disney movies. She wasn't ready and there is plenty of time ahead of us for them.
When we moved to Texas in June, it so happened that the Cars movie was playing on TV. It seemed tame enough and I couldn't remember anything "scary" in it so we let her watch it. She was thrilled! Her first movie and she loved it. The Cars characters are now some of her favorites and she talks about them often and wants to watch the movie over and over.
Recently I had the opportunity to take Samantha to Disneyland. We went with my sister and her 3 year old, Isaac. Samantha and Isaac are best buddies. They had an amazing day! She had the time of her life and has wonderful memories from that day. At Disneyland they saw Mater from the Cars movie and were super excited. They also rode the Monsters Inc ride and really enjoyed it.
Samantha and Isaac also have a fun make-believe game they play that involves pretending monsters are coming. Their imaginations are so good sometimes they scared themselves! Ha! They have a blast together!
So when Samantha happened upon the Monsters Inc movie we have in our cabinet, she wanted to watch it. She carried the movie around all week talking about how Isaac was going to come over and watch it with her. How they would have so much fun and laugh! Awww, such a sweet girl - so sorry your buddy is in California and you are in Texas. It broke my heart a little. Anyways, Joe and I were hopeful this would be a good movie experience and she wouldn't get scared. Samantha and Daddy watched it together on the couch and loved it. She was mesmorized. Daddy enjoyed the time with his little girl too!
